STUART A. GABRIEL, DIRECTOR OF THE RICHARD S. ZIMAN CENTER FOR REAL ESTATE AT UCLA TO KEYNOTE BENJAMIN S. CROCKER SYMPOSIUM ON REAL ESTATE LAW & BUSINESS

Sympoium to address challenges and opportunities in today's real estate and business environment

For Immediate Release
April 8, 2009

LOS ANGELES, CA - Stuart A. Gabriel, Arden Realty Chair and Professor of Finance at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, will serve as the closing plenary session keynote speaker for the Benjamin S. Crocker Symposium on Real Estate Law & Business 2009. The Symposium will be held May 5, 2009 at the LEED-certified Los Angeles Convention Center, adjacent to the new L.A. LIVE entertainment complex, and will provide unparalleled education and networking opportunities for real estate attorneys and business professionals in the Southern California real estate industry.

Professor Gabriel’s presentation will provide a summary of the current state of the real estate capital markets as well as the macro-economy. Specifically, he will share his insights into the relative efficacy of ongoing policy changes, including the formulation and application of monetary and fiscal stimulus packages as a source of reprieve from the severe credit rationing occurring in the capital markets. He will also discuss its related impact on our local, national, and global economy. In addition to keynoting the closing plenary session of the Crocker Symposium, Professor Gabriel will also moderate a panel during the afternoon breakout sessions entitled, “The U.S. Financial Regulatory System Overhaul and its Impact on Real Estate.

Stuart A. Gabriel is an academic leader in the real estate, finance and economic markets, as well as the housing and mortgage markets. In addition to being a finance professor at UCLA, Professor Gabriel serves as the Director of the Richard S. Ziman Center for Real Estate at UCLA, a joint venture between the UCLA Anderson School of Management and the UCLA School of Law. Professor Gabriel also serves on the economics staff of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington D.C., and is a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco.

“Stuart is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in both the real estate and financial markets,” said Donald Nanney, Chair of the Real Property Section, Los Angeles County Bar Association, and Partner at Gilchrist & Rutter. “We are very fortunate to have him as our closing keynote speaker. He will provide an excellent wrap-up of the symposium, sharing his perspective on the current economic climate and the road ahead for real estate, critical information for anyone involved with the real estate industry.”

This marks the first year the Crocker Symposium will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is LEED-certified to fit the continuously growing demand for sustainable green development. It is also part of the new 5.6 million square foot L.A. Live entertainment destination where the best in sports, leisure and state of the art real estate developments come together in one place. The complex is home to Staples Center as well as the Nokia Theatre, the GRAMMY MuseumSM, Club Nokia, Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge, the Conga Room, and ESPN Zone.

About the Crocker Symposium
The Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association first presented a real estate law symposium in 1972. In 1976, the Section named the symposium in honor of Benjamin S. Crocker (1935-1973), whose personal efforts significantly contributed to the growth of the Section and its mission of continuing legal education. While originally a program for real estate attorneys, the Benjamin S. Crocker Symposium was expanded into a "law and business" format commencing with the program in 2003, including education for real estate attorneys and members of the real estate business community. In 2007, the Section partnered with the Richard S. Ziman Center for Real Estate at UCLA (a joint center of the UCLA Anderson School of Management and the UCLA School of Law) to co-sponsor the 2008 Crocker Symposium. The 2009 program will be the 38th Annual Crocker Symposium.
